Live Long & Prosper In Japan’s “Shangri La”, by Boye Lafayette De Mente

Live Long & Prosper In Japan’s “Shangri La”, by Boye Lafayette De Mente

Tokyo, (PRWEB) April 20, 2005

There is a kind of “Shangri La” in Japan that is not isolated by high mountains and frigid weather. In fact, it is more tropical than temperate, and you can wear skimpy clothing and go swimming in the sea the year-around.

This land of sunshine and clear blue water is Okinawa, the largest of a string of some 60 islands stretched around 800 miles between Kyushu (Japan’s southernmost main island) and Taiwan.

An independent kingdom for most of its history (which goes back at least 32,000 years), Okinawa was invaded and captured by the Shimazu fiefdom on southern Kyushu in 1609, but it was not formally merged into the Japanese empire until the 1870s.

In the summer of 1945 Okinawa was invaded and captured by American and Allied forces during the last days of World War II (known in Japan as the Pacific War), and has since done double duty as a site U.S. military bases.

All of the Okinawan islands were administered by the U.S. military from 1945 to 1972, when they were returned to Japan. Now, growing as a business bridge between Japan, Taiwan, China and Southeast Asia, Okinawa is also becoming a major tourist destination.

In addition to its distinctive culture—part Southeast Asian and part Japanese—its historical artifacts, its tropical atmosphere (with the East China Sea on its east side and the Pacific Ocean on its west side), Okinawa is particularly renowned for the longevity of its people.

In fact, it is generally recognized that the older generation of Okinawan men and women live longer on average than any another other group of people on the globe. The reason for this, the experts say, is both cultural and dietary.

Most older Okinawans have clung to their traditional lifestyle—working outside the year around as farmers, craftsmen and fishermen, engaging in recreational activities such as folk dancing, and otherwise remaining active from sun up to sun down.

But the primary key to their extraordinary longevity is attributed to their diet—which is becoming increasingly famous around the world as a result of a flood of Okinawa diet books, magazine and newspaper articles, and the preaching of television health gurus.

Not surprisingly, the incidence of cancer, heart diseases and other maladies that afflict older people is far lower in Okinawa than anywhere else in the world. Most Okinawans die of old age when they are in their 80s, 90s and 100s without ever having suffered a serious illness.

These older Okinawans do not stint on their eating. Volume-wise, they eat as much if not more than most other people. It’s what they eat that counts. Their diet consists mostly of vegetables and grains that have about half of the calories per gram of food as the typical American and European diets.

Says a health researcher: “They eat a diet high in carbohydrates, but they are good carbs—not things that cause a rapid rise in blood sugar.”

High on the list of things Okinawans eat: vegetables, sweet potatoes, whole grains, fruit, soy foods, beans, seafood, seaweed, konnyaku (a vegetable jelly) yogurt and lean meat. And they use a lot of Southeast Asian spices, resulting in their diet sometimes being referred to as “Japanese food with salsa.”

Older Okinawans follow three basic principles in their eating: kuten gwa (eating small portions), hara hachi-bu (stop eating when you are 80 percent full), and nuchi gusui (eating with the idea that food has healing power). And they eat few if any processed foods.

The Okinawan diet is gradually making inroads into mainland Japan, with Okinawa restaurants springing up all over. Tokyoites and foreign visitors can now experience traditional Okinawan dishes at more than a dozen restaurants.

Among them: Miyarabi in Ikebukuro’s Ark City (building), which features cuisine based on ancient royal palace recipes and live entertainment; and Narabi to Kanado, which has two branches in Shinjuku, one in the Isetan Kaikan (next to the famous Isetan Department Store), and the other in the My City building.

Boyé Lafayette De Mente is the author of more than 30 pioneer and provocative books on Japan, ranging from Japanese Etiquette & Ethics in Business and Japanese Secrets of Graceful Living to Mistress-Keeping in Japan. See his personal website phoenixbookspublishers.com.

How do i test to see if i have a allergic reaction to bee pollen?

Question by jennifer: How do i test to see if i have a allergic reaction to bee pollen?
Can i rub the granules on my skin, or shoud i take it as directed orally?
how long does a rxn take place …please help

Best answer:

Answer by Marce
Bees are insects not flowers, they don’t have pollen, except the ones they carry from flowers. Flowers are the ones with pollen in which case you would have to test the flower itself.

Go to an allergy clinic and they can give you skin tests based on the types of flower pollen that are prevalent in the area where you live.

Mega H40, A Vegetarian Capsule Supplement, Is Now Available in Singapore

Singapore (PRWEB) August 30, 2006

DANNHAUSER Energize Life, a distributor and retailer of health food supplements, today announced that an essential food supplement to enhance good health and growth is now available in the Singapore market.

Mega H40 is a food supplement that contains 17 nutrients, 12 vitamins and a wide range of minerals. Although it was previously sold as a gelatine soft gel capsule, Mega H40 is now available in Singapore as a vegetarian capsule, making it suitable for vegans and Muslim consumers as well.

What makes Mega H40 different from other food supplements is the wide range of exotic nutrients that is contained in one single capsule. The nutrients DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Para Amino Benzoic Acid, Choline , Inositol, Rutin powder, Kelp, Royal Jelly, Damiana, Selenium, Siberian Ginseng, Bee Pollen, Betaine, Ginkgo Biloba, Natural beta Carotene, Molybdenum, Garlic oil, and Biotin Pure, all aim to provide the consumer with completeness, variety and moderation.

L-Lysine, for example, is an essential Amino Acid, which cannot be made by the body, but is vital for maintaining growth, tissue repair and energy. Ginkgo Biloba regulates the tone and elasticity of blood vessels, and increases blood flow to the brain and extremities. Siberian Ginseng, a species of Ginseng that has been used by the Chinese for 5000 years, energises the body. Such exotic nutrients are combined with vitamins and minerals in a single capsule to provide the essential nutrients that the body needs for the day, without causing stress to the organs.

Some of the vitamins included in the capsule are Vitamin A, D, B1 (Thiamin), B2, B6, B12, C and E. These vitamins provide proper nutrition and improve one’s health and immunity. Vitamin A, for example, is essential for health of eyes and structure of the skin. Vitamin D, on the other hand, helps the correct formation of bones and teeth. Thiamin, or Vitamin B1, is crucial in the conversion of carbohydrates into energy and it also enhances the health of the nervous systems in the body. Some of the essential minerals that are used include Calcium, Iron, Potassium and Zinc. The minerals in Mega H40 aid digestion, heart regularity, and ensure that the central nervous system functions well.

Available at independent healthcare stores at the retail price of S$ 30 (30 capsules), Mega H40 enhances good health and growth, aids indigestion and alertness of mind, as well as maintains the human body’s vitality.

Lach Day and Mega H40

Lach Day, Director and CFO of Dannhauser Energize Life, has been using Mega H40 for more than 20 years now and is its exclusive importer for Asia.

In 1984, Mrs. Day arrived in the United Kingdom with her college acceptance letter, GBP 3000.00 and her aspirations. Working to support herself and her education meant long hours, stress, loneliness and consequently depression. With money being short, food was a secondary concern after rent, utilities and tuition fees.

“I knew that I could not afford to fall ill during my studies in the United Kingdom. As a complete balanced diet was extremely difficult to come by on my budget, I had to look for a supplement that was affordable, convenient and most importantly, complete in terms of Vitamins, Minerals and Nutrients,” Mrs. Day said. “It was then that I discovered Mega H40, a supplement I have used daily ever since. Mega H40 helped me feel energized in doing my daily routine and nourished my body” she added.

The supplement also saw Mrs. Day through a difficult medical history and IVF treatments.

Introducing the Industry’s Finest: The Prince & Princess of the Press

Introducing the Industry’s Finest: The Prince & Princess of the Press

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 17, 2005

They are the industry’s hottest new duo. Why? Simply because they are young, vibrant and doing nearly everything one can think of. Between the two of them, they wear the hats of CEO, publicist, photojournalist, actor, singer, songwriter, pianist, audio technician, manager, speaker, fashion expert, and event coordinator. They are Warren Thomas and Sabrina Gantt, recently noted as The Prince & Princess of the Press. Affectionately known to each other as “Wó” and “Bri”, these young professionals have been seen around the country from major award shows and nightclubs to political meetings and parties, seizing each as an opportunity to obtain top celebrity interviews, photographs, and meetings. Known for their distinct and original sense of fashion and impeccable style, matching outfits serve as their signature, alerting rooms and red carpets alike, of their presence. Members of the press are rarely brought into the limelight but this royal couple is learning how to handle serving the public as well as the public eye; especially at the tender ages of 21 and 22. I recently sat down with the prince and princess for an in-depth interview about them and their plans for the immediate future.

[B. Zadel] Okay we’ve got to get something straight. Exactly who does what?

[Warren] Well I’m CEO of The WATt Agency, the company we operate under. I am also the publicist, songwriter, pianist, and manager. Sabrina is the photojournalist, actor, singer, and audio technician. Both of us are speakers, fashion experts, and event coordinators. I’m 22 years old and Sabrina is 21.

[B. Zadel] Now, since you both do so much, why do you have the titles of Prince and Princess of the Press?

[Sabrina] [Laughing] We get that question often. The press is everywhere and includes so much more than television or periodicals. It’s all forms of mass media; movies, sports, fashion, political functions, concerts, just about everything in popular culture that inspires the general public. Since Warren and I do have numerous God-given talents and abilities between us, we’ve decided to embrace and capitalize on them instead of putting them aside as so many people do. I guess, I hope people intend the titles of prince and princess to represent the combination of our youthfulness, strong characters, and professional/social distinctiveness.

[Warren] We are definitely involved in a lot. We have a newsletter coming out entitled WATTAGE, we are scheduled to do some small work in a HBO film later this month, and scheduled to attend NY Fashion Week, the BET Comedy Awards, and several speaking engagements in September. It is all very exciting!

[B. Zadel] How did the two of you meet?

[Sabrina] Well I’m from Lawnside, NJ and Warren’s from Philly, [Warren – West Philly] but we’re moving to Atlanta, GA in September. Anyway, we consistently saw each other in passing in our local church circles for about six months. Warren was the manager and publicist for a gospel artist by the name of Benita Farmer. He got in touch with me through a mutual friend because he heard that I did good work with sound and Benita was in need of a sound technician. After a few Tuesday night rehearsals and a couple of band road trips, we became close friends and the rest is history.

[Warren] Sabrina’s a dork. [Laughing] No, no, no. She is one of the brightest and most unique people I have ever met. I count myself privileged to call her friend and colleague.

[B. Zadel] Is there anyone the two of you look to for inspiration or advice?

[Warren] Wendy Williams, the undeniable Queen of the Media. We love her. She has strategically positioned herself to serve has not only a voice, but a decision maker in various areas of entertainment. She catches a great deal of flack from critics but she’s truly one of the best in the biz.

[Sabrina] We also study the careers of people such as Oprah Winfrey, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Russell Simmons, and even Jennifer Lopez. But, there are a few entertainers that we’ve gotten to know on somewhat of a personal level that are just great. Comedian Denny Live, actor Guy Torry, singer Hezekiah Walker, Essence best-selling author Brenda Thomas, to name a few.

[B. Zadel] What do the two of you like to do for fun?

[Sabrina] I enjoy long walks on the beach, beautiful sunsets, snuggling up with a good book, shopping and chocolate, the simple pleasures of any woman. Oh, and I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

[Warren] I like doing anything involving music, especially playing or writing it, grilling, football, and hanging out with my auntie. I loovvveee my auntie.

[B. Zadel] What advice, if any, would you give to people trying to make it in the “business”?

[Warren] We have so much we’re trying to accomplish. ‘The hustle’ is consistent, it never stops, remember that. When you reach a certain level don’t become content, always strive for the next level, and the next after that. And remember to always put GOD first.

[Sabrina] Complacency is the enemy of excellence. People look at us, even some of our friends, and assume that we’re some sort of celebrities because they see our picture in a magazine or see us going to different events or hear us on the radio or something. When the truth of the matter is that we are just like everyone else. One of the benefits of meeting the celebrities we meet is that we get to see them in front of the camera as well as behind it; and truth be told, they are just working like any other person. Only they have been blessed to capture the attention of the masses. Warren and I have made it a point to always utilize whatever attention we get for a positive purpose such as speaking out at different gatherings or bringing critical issues to light.

[B. Zadel] Where do you two see yourselves in the next year?

[Warren] In movies, my songs on albums, reaching out to communities nationwide promoting success, and my company known as one of the premiere PR companies in the nation.

[Sabrina] I want the growth of the WATt Agency to be significant. I also want to have placed decent roles in various movies and television shows.

Supplements: Probiotics, Progesterone Cream, Red Yeast Rice, Royal Jelly and S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe)

Probiotics

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria normally present in the digestive tract. They are vital for proper digestion and also perform a number of other useful functions, such as preventing the overgrowth of yeast and other pathogens, and synthesizing vitamin K. The probiotics most often used as supplements are acidophilus and bifidobacteria.

Cultured, or fermented, foods also contain various types and amounts of beneficial bacteria. These foods in-clude buttermilk, cheese, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, tempeh, umeboshi, and yogurt.

Progesterone Cream

Progesterone is a hormone that is produced primarily by the ovaries and also by the adrenal glands. It works in partnership with estrogen to regulate menstrual cycles and is important for the maintenance of pregnancy. In addition to its role in the female reproductive system, it has a number of other important effects:

It stimulates the activity of bone-building cells called osteoblasts

Exerts an antidepressant and calming effect in the brain

Helps to regulate blood sugar levels

Plays a role in maintaining the myelin sheaths that protect nerve cells

Progesterone can be used by the body to produce other hormones, including DHEA, estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol, as needed. A deficiency of progesterone, on the other hand, can exacerbate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopausal discomforts, and may increase the risk of osteoporosis. Progesterone deficiency becomes increasingly common in women as they approach menopause, and can start as early as age thirty-five. Symptoms can include night sweats, hot flashes, depression, and premenstrual discomfort.

Supplemental progesterone is available in cream form. The hormone is absorbed through the skin after the cream is applied, and it passes directly into the bloodstream for transport to sites where progesterone is needed. Natural Woman Essential Body Cream from Products of Nature is recommended.

Red Yeast Rice

Red yeast rice is a food product created by fermenting rice with a strain of red yeast (Monascus purpureus Went yeast). It is also sometimes referred to as Monascus rice or, in Chinese, Hung-chu or Hong-Qu. It has long been used in China and Japan as a food and as a remedy for digestive ailments and poor circulation. More recently, red yeast rice extract, taken in supplement form, has been found both to reduce overall blood cholesterol levels and to improve the ratio of HDL (“good cholesterol”) to LDL (“bad cholesterol”). A study conducted by the University of California-Los Angeles, School of Medicine found that people who took red yeast rice and maintained a low-fat diet reduced their overall cholesterol levels by an average of 40 points over a period of twelve weeks. The extract contains a number of cholesterol-lowering compounds known as statins. One of these is lovastatin, a substance also sold as a prescription drug under the brand name Mevacor. Lovastatin acts to lower cholesterol by inhibiting the action of an enzyme designated HMG-CoA reductase, which in turn limits the rate at which the body produces cholesterol. Studies have shown statins to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart attack. Unlike prescription products, red yeast rice extract has shown no serious adverse side effects in clinical trials.

Royal Jelly

Royal jelly is a thick, milky substance that is secreted from the pharyngeal glands of a special group of young nurse bees between their sixth and twelfth days of life. When honey and pollen are combined and refined within the young nurse bee, royal jelly is naturally created. This substance contains all of the B-complex vitamins, including a high concentration of pantothenic acid (vitamin 65) and vitamin Bg (pyridoxine), and is the only natural source of pure acetylcholine. Royal jelly also contains minerals, enzymes, hormones, eighteen amino acids, antibacterial and antibiotic components, and vitamins A, C, D, and E. It is useful for bronchial asthma, liver disease, pancreatitis, insomnia, stomach ulcers, kidney disease, bone fractures, and skin disorders, and it strengthens the immune system. This product must be combined with honey to preserve its potency. Royal jelly spoils easily. Keep it refrigerated and make sure it is tightly sealed when purchased.

S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe)

S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a derivative of the amino acid methionine that is formed in the body when methionine combines with adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the major source of cellular energy. Taken as a supplement, SAMe has a variety of positive effects:

It is an effective antidepressant.

It is beneficial for disorders of the joints and connective tissue, including arthritis and fibromyalgia.

It promotes the health of the liver.

It may lower levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that is associated with cardiovascular disease.

It may help to slow the aging process.

SAMe works closely with folic acid, choline, and vitamins Bg and B12. It is one of a class of substances called methyl donors. As the name implies, methyl donors are compounds that “donate” units called methyl groups, which contain hydrogen and carbon atoms, to other sub-stances. This process is called methylation, and it is one way in which the body protects itself from damage on the cellular level.

Among other things, methyl donors help to protect against such serious disorders as cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, and many age-related problems, and facilitate the manufacture of DNA and brain neurotransmitters.

Taking supplemental SAMe may also increase natural levels of glutathione, an antioxidant; phosphatidyl choline, which aids in the metabolism of fats; and the hormone melatonin. A small number of people have experienced minor nausea and gastrointestinal disturbances as a result of taking high doses, but otherwise no notable side effects have been reported. Although SAMe is considered very safe, anyone with manic-depressive disorder (bipolar mood disorder) should consult a physician before taking this supplement. SAMe should always be taken on an empty stomach.

Question by begladtoday23: what is the best way to collect royal jelly ?
any website , any person(who do it before ) please help me.

Best answer:

Answer by Number 3
Unless you are an experience bee-keeper, I would not recomment trying to collect royal jelly.

The following website has lots of information on royal jelly, including how to collect:

http://www.royalbeejelly.net/how-to-harvest-royal-jelly/

“~First you need a bee family without a queen!
~Give them a frame with added piece of wood with special cells.
~In these cells put 20 to 36 hours old bee larvas.
Because bees cannot live without their queen they try to raise a new one. They feed larvas with a lot of royal jelly, trying to make new queens.
~After 48 to 52 hours take these added cells away and take the royal jelly away with a special spoon
~Put new cells with larvas in the hive and bees will fill it again.
~Freeze harvested royal jelly and keep it in a dark room.”
